Narrative
The city has agreed to give Wal-Mart utility tax credits over a ten year period, with $300,000 in the first year and $30,000 less than the previous year each subsequent year, totaling $1.65 million over a ten-year period. When Good Jobs First asked whether incentives played a role in bringing the Wal-Mart to Vidalia, the city's Mayor said: "They had already made their mind that they were coming here" but added that the money Wal-Mart saved from the tax credits would go to the nearby Town of Ferriday to help them compensate for the Wal-Mart they lost when Vidalia's opened, There is, however, no written agreement regarding this, and the money is not dedicated to any specific project.
