Narrative
A local official disclosed that the city provided $350,000 for road improvements, and on March 1, 2000 the Birmingham News reported that St. Clair County presented the city with an additional $150,000 for the work. The city also purchased the land on which Wal-Mart built the store, providing a property tax exemption, the value of which was not available. The Supercenter replaced a Wal-Mart discount store in the town.
